Cybersecurity Innovation Group Virtual Meetup
20 May 2020 @ 3:00 pm-4:00 pm
Following our successful 1st Bristol cybersecurity meetup in January, we went virtual with our first webinar on 20 May 2020.
There were interesting presentations, including talks from David Rogers, Copper Horse CEO, Professor Mark Beach of the University of Bristol, and Aileen Ryan, UltraSoC CSO.
Copper Horse CEO David Rogers gave an update on the various COVID-19 focused cyber-attacks that have taken place, including physical attacks on mobile base-stations due to conspiracy theories, smishing and attacks on medical facilities. He also discussed the privacy implications of contact tracing apps.
UltraSoC CSO Aileen Ryan provided an update on the initial use-cases selected for the Secure-CAV project co-funded by Innovate UK.
We were also joined by Professor Mark Beach, who introduced the UKRI SWAN Prosperity Partnership, a five-year joint research programme focusing on the creation of Secure Wireless Agile Networks (SWAN) that are resilient to both cyber-attacks and accidental or induced failures. Jointly funded by EPSRC, Toshiba Research Europe Ltd, Roke Manor Research Limited, GCHQ, and the University of Bristol, the SWAN Prosperity Partnership is working to identify vulnerabilities in RF interfaces, allowing for the development of techniques that can be used to detect and mitigate against the effects of cyber-attacks.
